When you arrive at the clinic, we will begin by discussing your reasoning for booking an appointment and what problem’s you are experiencing alongside any contributing factors. I will talk through any past injuries you have experienced, as well as any medication you may be on and your lifestyle factors to understand you more holistically. Most appointments will include a postural assessment, a assessment of your ranges of movement and a visual / manual assessment of the area of pain to allow a comparison to be made post treatment.
Once I am satisfied with the history I have gathered on you, you’ll be requested to remove any outer layers of clothing. The nature of the profession and treatment requires me to have direct contact with your skin in order to provide an effective treatment. Sports massage treatments use a sports massage lotion as a medium which absorbs into the skin in order to avoid a ‘greasy’ feeling post treatment.
During your treatment I will ensure only the area being treated is uncovered, ensuring your personal privacy and dignity is respected throughout your appointment.
The preference is all yours of arriving ready in sports kit or arriving in day clothes, where you’ll be able to change into something more appropriate in private whilst in the clinic. For females shorts are preferred as opposed to leggings as this prevents an effective treatment, likewise if sports bras with fancy/strappy designs could be avoided as this causes issues reaching certain muscles.
During the treatment a combination of towels and cushions will be used to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
There are variety of massage techniques will be performed in combination with active/ passive stretching. During this I am in frequent conversation with you to establish your pain scale / tolerance on a scale of 1-10. Your pain levels will adapt and lessen over time as your muscles and body become used to the nature of the treatment, and any subsequent aftercare advice is followed out post treatment to allow maintenance of your own body. The treatment therefore will work within the proximities of what is comfortable for you

Rest, and drink plenty of water. It’s likely you may feel an element of soreness post treatment, therefore heavy exercise isn’t advised in the 24 hour post treatment
